Going The Distance

In 1992, I was a coach for a youth soccer league. It became important, at that time, for me to raise my level of physical fitness. Running had never been one of my strong points since I was born with club feet. However, I began a daily exercise routine which consisted of going to a local track at a school and running a few laps. One day I met a man who was also running and he gave me some running tips which, as it turned out, helped me in almost every aspect of my life. |
Up until I met this man, I would run approximately 3 laps, stop running, and drive home. The day I met him and from that day forward I ran a minimum of 12 laps by using the simple suggestions he shared with me. Here they are: he said simply that when you run and you become tired you should slow down rather than stop and you should maintain the slower pace as long as you need to until you regain your energy. Then you should gradually increase your speed to a speed which is comfortable for you. Although this may seem like common sense to you, I had, up until that point, been totally oblivious to this simple fact. As I jogged that day and listened to this man talk as he jogged next to me, I was amazed at how simple the whole process of running actually was.
Later that week, I decided to apply his teachings to business. My previous approach to business was to work as hard as I possibly could and then stop working in exhaustion (or when I got sick) and then start again when I felt rested. For one week, I made a pact with myself that when I started feeling the symptoms of being tired of my work, even in the least degree, I would simply slow down for a while and then resume my former pace after I felt that I had "caught my breath."
It is obvious that this teaching had profound effects on my business life and later had profound effects on my personal, financial, and even spiritual life. I never saw that man again, but his simple teachings are with me to this day. I hope that by sharing them with you, I have shed some light on how simple it can be to resolve "problems" in your life. Sometimes all you need to do is "catch your breath" and keep moving forward.
I want you to be successful. Take your life to the next level!
Until next time,
Live in Abundant Possibility!
